The Small Business Series (SBS) showcases outstanding, Black-owned organizations across Philadelphia that align with Whitney M. Young, Jr.'s pillars of equality and economic empowerment.
The series continues to uplift and support Philadelphia's Black businesses by awarding up to $10,000 in grant value and providing increased exposure and visibility in the greater Wharton ecosystem.

Sponsored by M&T Bank, this year's Small Business Series (SBS) will support and showcase outstanding Black-owned organizations across Philadelphia to promote economic inclusion and racial equity.
Selected businesses will participate in an entrepreneurship workshop at the Wharton School, delivered in partnership with M&T Bank. This workshop will feature interactive sessions on topics that will help participants with growing their businesses. These Black-owned ventures will gain access to a valuable network and curated resources, as well as increased exposure to Wharton’s broader ecosystem.

Any Black-owned small business based in Philadelphia with less than 50 full-time equivalent employees and an annual revenue of $1 million or less.
How Winners Are Selected
Winners are selected based on their demonstrated community impact, growth potential, demonstrated traction, and the strength of their business model.
what you can win
In addition to up to $10,000, winners receive expert mentorship, exposure to the small business ecosystem, and increased visibility within the ecosystem of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Ancient Healing Teas is a company that was created to fill the deficit in the modern woman’s womb care needs. Ancient Healing Teas contributes to women’s health, by offering natural, herbal solutions that are less invasive and less expensive than surgery or medications.
TML Communications
TML Communications is an award-winning strategic public relations, crisis communications, and community engagement firm that produces results. The company has worked with clients including DoorDash, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office.
Ceramic Concept
Ceramic Concept is a ceramic centered storefront located in the heart of West Philadelphia. The space is representative of over 50 artists from across the country and two abroad. All of the wares in the space are carefully curated and run by Stefani Threet, a ceramic artist whose work is among the artists represented. The concept of the space is simple– to intentionally highlight the works of artists of color, women, and local artists by providing a space that exclusively carries their wares.
